The Cloisters Replica
Several 14th century stained glass panels from the collection at The Cloisters in Manhattan were in need of a major restoration. In order to maintain the display while the windows were out The Metropolitan Museum wanted to have an authentic looking copy in place. A team of craft artists was called on to produce a medieval replica. Indraw McCraw did the glass painting, Tom Ventirella cut and assembled the window and Michael Davis was on board to fabricate colored glass roundels that would be the raw material of the project. Concurrent with this project, the PBS show NOVA produced a documentary on "Building the Great Cathedrals," and featured the glass fabrication process. Below is a link to the trailer for the show which aired on PBS in the Fall of 2010.
